What's the best way to do your part to end our catastrophic addiction to oil?
Ditch your car.
That is what I'm doing. Today I placed a sales ad on AutoTrader.com for my 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. Today I said goodbye to toxic carbon emissions, stressful traffic jams, costly repairs, auto insurance and being a slave to the pump and the dirty oil fueling wars and the destruction of the environment.
I will not miss my 25 mpg Chevy one bit because over the past couple of years I've changed my lifestyle to be more eco-friendly by walking, biking and taking public transit. So my car has basically been sitting in my apartment garage where its tail pipe can do no harm.
So today was the biggest step I've taken yet to end my personal reliance on oil. When I used to drive my Chevy Cav I had a bumper sticker that proclaimed "My Next Car Will Be Electric." And if and when I purchase my next vehicle it will probably be the second or third generation Nissan Leaf -- the 100% electric zero emissions car that will be available at the end of this year. I will hopefully charge my Leaf with renewable energy.
Ending my reliance on dirty coal will be next!
